En 1856, deux pr\u00e9dicateurs de langue allemande et membres de l\u2019Eglise \u00e9piscopale m\u00e9thodiste vinrent en Suisse et commenc\u00e8rent \u00e0 proclamer l\u2019Evangile \u00e0 Lausanne, o\u00f9 il existait une paroisse m\u00e9thodiste francophone depuis 1840 d\u00e9j\u00e0, et \u00e0 Zurich. Dix ans plus tard, des pr\u00e9dicateurs de la \u00ab Evangelische Gemeinschaft \u00bb, une autre branche de l\u2019Eglise m\u00e9thodiste, s\u2019install\u00e8rent \u00e0 Berne et y fond\u00e8rent une premi\u00e8re communaut\u00e9. Les efforts de ces missionnaires port\u00e8rent leurs fruits. Durant les 25 premi\u00e8res ann\u00e9es, les deux branches m\u00e9thodistes germanophones se d\u00e9velopp\u00e8rent rapidement. Les communaut\u00e9s existantes accueillirent de nouveaux membres et amis et leurs \u00e9coles du dimanche et chorales \u00e9taient souvent tr\u00e8s fr\u00e9quent\u00e9es. L\u2019ann\u00e9e 1968 fut marqu\u00e9e par un \u00e9v\u00e9nement important, \u00e0 savoir la fusion, au niveau mondial, de ces deux branches de l\u2019Eglise en une Eglise Evang\u00e9lique M\u00e9thodiste (United Methodist Church).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La communaut\u00e9 m\u00e9thodiste de St-Imier \u00e9tait, il y a quelques ann\u00e9es, une communaut\u00e9 germanophone et un jour les responsables ont eu \u00e0 prendre la d\u00e9cision tr\u00e8s sensible de devenir une communaut\u00e9 francophone, vu les habitants de la r\u00e9gion et la jeune g\u00e9n\u00e9ration qui parlent davantage le fran\u00e7ais.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Actuellement, nous sommes une trentaine de membres avec autant d\u2019amis et une dizaine d\u2019enfants, pas tous de la ville, mais venant d\u2019environ 30 km \u00e0 la ronde.<\/p>\n\n\n
